Course Summary
This 4-year Honours Degree aims to provide each student with the education and training necessary for entry into the construction and property industry as a professional Construction Manager.
Course Description
This management course integrates theory with practical application to equip students with real-life problem-solving, communication, and research skills. It provides them with a broad understanding of construction management, resource management, construction technology, building regulations, financial management, health and safety legislation, and environmental protection.
Construction managers are recognized as one of a family of disciplines involved with the built environment and its planning, design, construction, maintenance, and restoration. The program includes:
- building technology and building design performance to achieve integration, buildability, speed, cost efficiency, and quality
- project management planning and scheduling including decision-making, risk analysis, BIM, and project evaluation
- project performance management including procurement and contract performance, process improvement, and innovation
- sustainability impact of a building over its life-cycle and methods to mitigate negative impacts of construction
- contractors’ responsibilities regarding sustainability and health and safety
- site investigation to assess the suitability of individual sites for construction projects.
The first year of this program will be delivered to a combined group of Construction Management and Architectural Technology students. At the end of first-year students can request to transfer to the Architectural Technology program.

Career opportunities for Construction Management graduates are excellent. Employment opportunities include a range of occupations in both the public and private sectors including

- project managers
- site managers, with building contracting or subcontracting firms.
